Welcome to Southwestern Eye Center,
leaders in Arizona Eye Health Care.
Southwestern Eye Center was first established by Dr. Rex Weaver in Mesa, Arizona in 1954 as a private ophthalmologist practice. Over time Dr. Weaver has set a precedent for providing quality eye care in Arizona's rural communities.
With the addition of Dr. L. Lothaire Bluth in 1982 the practice has expanded to include both optometrists and ophthalmologist which has resulted in patients receiving more comprehensive eye care in a single location. In 1982 Dr. Bluth and Dr. Weaver implemented the concept of offering outpatient surgical eye care on site. In addition to being more efficient and cost effective, outpatient surgery offers patients eye care in an atmosphere that is comfortable and familiar. It allows them to return home following surgery and eliminates unnecessary hospital expenses.
Today Southwestern Eye Center has 13 surgery centers covering Arizona including locations in Mesa, Casa Grande, Safford, Nogales, Yuma, Prescott, Phoenix, Sun City, Sierra Vista, Lake Havasu City, Lakeside, Cottonwood, and Kingman.
Southwestern Eye Center's optometrists provide care in general family practice optometry, diabetic eye care management, co-management of cataract care, and glaucoma care. Our optometrists work within the full scope of their Arizona licensure. Southwestern Eye Center's medical staff includes a group of ophthalmologists with a diverse range of specialties. The full time staff provides expertise in the areas of cataract and implant surgery, treatment of glaucoma, diabetes management, corneal transplants, refractive surgery, medical and surgical retina, and LASIK laser vision correction.
